"I really hate the sound of this. You're describing the actions of a man I don't know."
"Ed is not the issue right now. D.J. is. We don't have all that much time. That's why you've been chosen. He felt that with your connection to D.J. you'd be able to accomplish this mission the quickest."
"Why are you in such a big hurry?"
The bright, ethereal light that shone from Raphael's face dimmed for a moment. Josie shivered, as though a bank of clouds had blotted out the heat of the noonday sun.
"What?" she cried. "What aren't you telling me?"
"D.J. has nothing to look forward to in her life. She takes too many risks. She feels no fear." He raised his head and looked straight into Josie's eyes. "Christian's life is in danger, and soon D.J.'s will be, as well. She must learn to love in order to save them both. That's all I can tell you. If you want to save her, you must agree to these terms. I must have an answer now, Josie." Raphael paused and held out his hand to her. "Will you be D.J.'s angel?"
